This year…Be present.featured

Baby cousin

One of my reasons to go back home was to meet this little guy. He is 2 months old and absolutely precious!

Five years ago, I decided to move across the country, leaving my family on the east coast. My husband and I relocated to Texas in 2011, and I have had the opportunity to visit home (Bahston :-p) at least once a year since. Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to just get away and spend some time with many of my family members, which allowed me to realize one BIG thing.

Time will pass. Family members will grow, age, and mature, and I will not be there to experience it. I realized I am missing the births, birthdays, and events of family members.

I looked at him, and my other family members and realized that although I am across the country I do not want him or anyone else  to “feel” my distance. I was reminded, that I could do better, and be more present. I could make a better effort to show my family that they are in my thoughts.

I found that many of us are doing our best to keep up with the fast paced world we live in. So, to start this year I will be making a better effort in reaching out to them. Reaching out to my friends, and really putting the work in to reestablishing those relationships.

My phrase of the year… “Be present.”

Thank you for reading. Let me know in the comments what your word/phrase for 2016 is.
